What Happened To the Tribes of Europe
« on: July 05, 2014, 01:55:10 am »
They had to be trained to love what they feared.  They became property of their lord, their boss.

"How are we going to start perceiving reality?  Let's use our intelligence!"

The tribes became serfs and peasants ... but they still prayed to spirits ... So the Church decided it was going to mine this resource and "save the souls of the heathens."  The tribes of Europe were terrorized and brutalized in the name of their "Lord" - who owned the land and owned YOU.

They inherited wealth through the generations for 1000 years ... becoming spiritually and physically the possession of someone else.

"Whoever this miner is, they do not want us to think."

The zoo-keepers and miners have thousands of pages about Trudell because sometimes he is coherent, and they do not want us thinking ...

We will no longer enable in the lie.  I will not participate in the lie today.

Are we the ones we have been waiting for?

How will we influence reality?  We are the earthquake.  We are drops of rain, and they will have to adjust to our storm.

Trudell

A little clarification about the Tribes of Europe..you think an external agency came into Europe & sort of destroyed the indigenous culture?
If so, what this external ageny might be?

This would take a considerable amount of reflection on my part before responding.  I wish there were a device that could be connected to my brain that would allow me to be able to answer that honestly.

I am not sure how to go about answering this.  I can say that I am currently knee-deep in some technical tasks ... editing configuration files ... (changing the subject) ... I installed a second hard drive - it's 250GB - I got it for $25 ... less than a 32GB flashdrive!

Now I will have a workspace to store data in.  I had no room to work sharing an 80GB drive between XP and Linux.

... sorry to dodge the question like that.  I need a cigarette.

Elvis has left the building.    :-X

Ah ... I found the error in /etc/fstab ... mounting a partition on second drive to be shared between xp and linux ... data ...

And I experienced a Eureka moment thinking about bitwise operator AND ...

... then ... Then I checked in on this post to see if I made any sense.  You see?  I did not have to make sense in order for you to understand, giving further proof of the irrational nature of reality.

It is very possible that I do not know what to make of the Hitler phenomenon.  There are things we may not even allow ourselves to think if they do not fit nicely with our image, or the image we project ...  Thanks for understanding that, if I am to be completely honest, I have to admit that there are many layers to the thinking process, and I am uncertain which layers were placed there by "social engineers" and which layers belong to the creature itself.

Having said that, I guess this would be a thread to discuss this matter.  I could go through my records and extract some meditations I had in the past ... There was a time I was fascinated by the fact that Hitler had been homeless and refused to get a job.  That floored me.

I can't picture any Bush or Obama or Clinton homeless and without some kind of scam going, er, I mean "job" ...

On the other hand, I am not militaristic at all, so I wonder if Hitler's brain was hijacked by the mind parasites which played upon his insecurities.  He was once very receptive to Schopenhauer's philosophy, and then suddenly had a change of heart and went off the deep end with Nietzsche's Will To Power.

Way back when:

Quote from: me
Now, as long as I am investigating the roots of fascism in our own Amerikan society, I might as well take a clear-headed look at how fascism took hold in the Old World. Before … when he was younger … Hitler lived a solitary life. Much of the time he spent dreaming or brooding. He was an angry, lonely man. He wandered for hours through the streets and parks, suddenly disappearing into the public library in pursuit of some new enthusiasm. Hitler’s moods alternated between abstracted preoccupation and outbursts of excited talk. He was a poor wretch, often half starved, without a job, family, or home. He clung obstinately to any belief that would bolster up the claim of his own superiority. By the age of 21, he had become what more disciplined folks like to call “a jobless bum.”

Germany had suffered a collective inferiority complex on a national scale. This led to an overcompensation for it in the form of extreme nationalism. The Nazis were a middle class movement rather than proletarian. The lower classes were also drawn to Nazism which became anti-revolutionary, but had begun as revolutionary. Fascism grows out of economic stress. The middle class goes after the proletarian, destroying their organizations. This silent majority may be the same types that would volunteer information to “Homeland Security” about suspicious characters. It is the silent majority that creates fascism. The collective frustration of the disappearing middle class gets subverted into fascistic regimes.

Now, Friedrich Nietzsche helps me understand the way the herd, the mob, the masses operate.

“High and independent spirituality, the will to stand alone, are experienced as dangers; everything that elevates an individual above the herd and intimidates the neighbor is henceforth called evil; and the fair, modest, submissive, conforming mentality, the mediocrity of desires attains moral designations and honors.”

Dionysus was the god of ecstasy and frenzy, the god of drunken ecstasy and frenzy. The symbol of Dionysus took possession of Nietzsche’s life. He consecrated himself to the service of the god Dionysus, but Dionysus is a dangerous and ambiguous god. Nietzsche was torn apart by the dark forces of the underworld, succumbing, at age 45, to psychosis. Nietzsche was one of the loneliness men. Is there any way to know if there exists or ever has existed a sane individual? The earth has become a madhouse, and those running the asylums are usually even more insane than the inmates confined within the walls.

Nietzsche, like many spiritual heroes, such as his nemesis, Christ, is not to be admired.

We don’t want to walk their path!

Now I am venturing into realms of discourse where few traverse, building connections in my neural nerve net which I intend to implement immediately as my insights have concrete manifestations in my life-world and in my interactions with the social fabric. Do I, as a deoedipalized individual transforming, have the capacity to demolish entire sectors of the social machinery simply by calling into question the established order?

“The details of my exploits are only a pretext for a … far more expansive consideration of general truths. What is this? It’s a philosophy. A poetics. A politics, if you will. A literature of protest. A novel of ideas. A pornographic magazine of truly comic-book proportions. It is in the end whatever the hell I want it to be. And when I’m through with it it’s gonna blow a hole this wide… straight through the world’s idea of itself.” (From the film “Henry Fool”)

July 2008

Quote from: me
Last night, in the cell, I read aloud chapters five and six in their entirity from Malcom Lowry’s Under the Volcano. In chapter six, I was suprised to read: “No longer did he grub around from shady publisher to publisher with his guitar and his manuscripts in Geoff’s gladstone bag. Yet his life once more began to bear a certain resemblence to [the young] Adolf Hitler’s. He had not lost touch with Boloski, and into his heart he imagined himself plotting revenge. A form of private anti-Semitism became part of his life. He sweated racial at night. If it still sometimes struck him that in the stokehold he had fallen down the spout of the capitalist system that feeling now was inseperable from his loathing of the Jews. It was somehow the fault of the poor old Jews, not merely Boloski, but all Jews, that he’d found himself down the stokehold in the first place on a wild goose chase. It was even due to the Jews that such economic excressances as the British Mercantile Marine existed.”

Note from June 2010

To perceive history correctly, we have to recognize in all the endless changes the self-same unchangeable being before us which pursues the same ends today as it did yesterday and will until the end.  (Schopenhauer)

And so I return to my studies ... Raskolnikov, former computer science student ... poking around in the registers to see the actual bits ...

You are easily the most profound thinker I have ever known,I kid you not.Its an absolute honour to be able to correspond with you.
What you wrote made me imagine  Hitler singing this song (only with Wanger's
music instead of Waters')-

http://youtu.be/bxXRbbCo5n0
Jesus, Jesus, what's it all about?
Trying to clout these little ingrates into shape.
When I was their age all the lights went out.
There was no time to whine or mope about.
And even now part of me flies over
Dresden at angels one five.
Though they'll never fathom it behind my
Sarcasm desperate memories lie.

Sweetheart sweetheart are you fast asleep? Good.
'Cause that's the only time that I can really speak to you.
And there is something that I've locked away
A memory that is too painful
To withstand the light of day.

When we came back from the war the banners and
Flags hung on everyone's door.
We danced and we sang in the street and
The church bells rang.
But burning in my heart
My memory smolders on
Of the gunners dying words on the intercom.

The Final Cut ... another work I may want to pirate ... arrrrrr, 'tis the second of a trio, the first part being The Wall, the last part being the solo album, The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking ... which reminds me of a tremendous thread where someone (yougetajob) was debating with Crazy Squirrel about whether it was more dangerous for a woman to hitch hike alone ... He had argued that any isolated human being is vulnerable ... anyway, as tremendous as the thread was, it ended in disaster.  I wish I had saved a copy of the discussion.  Some disasters ... we called them "train wrecks" ... are actually more valuable then "avoiding confrontations at all costs".

I do value Crazy Squirrel's perspective, and I thank you for your thoughtful manners when interacting with her here.  We are each individuals not to be pigeon-holed into the genres created by society.

Now, back to this thread: why did I start it in the Vie Verk section?  It may be related to the New Work Ethic which rewards the winners of this "race to the bottom" as far as low wages and lack of benefits goes.  We'll see if it is all interconnected as we progress through this back and forth.

I want to respond off the cuff today ... on the fly.  Usually my posts will be calculated where I resort to quoting things I have written before, pointing out things great minds have written.  In this post, I want to try to write something directly from my conscious mind as if scribbling in a diary.

Last night or early this morning I dreamed I had stolen a sandwich, then I was in a restroom squeezing out a bowel movement.  Maybe the old brain is taking an intellectual crap right now ... Why did Antonin Artaud write that all writing is pigShit?  Anyway, during this dream, and I will not say it was a strange dream since all dreams are "strange" - for that matter, life itself is strange ... well, during this dream I was driving a large truck looking for a back road in my hometown.  I couldn't find it, and I crashed the truck into a large body of water.  Then I am looking at a regular office building and wondering what on earth all these office workers could possibly be doing all day in all these office buildings.  Some of them have no windows.  Could any number of them be hacking away at trying to get a splashscreen to show up in the grub2 boot menu?  And they pay people while they are doing things I do for kicks?  Hmmm ... I better try to stay focused.

I mention the dreams just to put my brain into "diary mode" - to be less calculating in my approach to this thread, What Happened To The Tribes of Europe?  The word Europe really ought to be in quotations since it is an abstract bundle of nation-states glued together after the collapse of the Roman Empire and then the downfall of the Roman Catholic Church.  Some people even consider Sweden to be "European" and it is not.  The Swedes were the last Northern Peoples to be "Christianized" - Christianity, like Judaism and Islam - being a religion from the southern hemisphere around the Mediterranean Sea.

So, when I awoke I was going over my dreams as is my ritual when other thoughts kept interrupting the flow of dream recall.  For whatever reason I am thinking about all the propaganda (not necessarily false) about the crisis at the borders of Texas, the endless stream of teenage refugees escaping from drug-infested/gang-infested areas of Central America.  Another image pops into my head - "citizens" in present day Europe complaining about the infestation of "Muslims" from the southern hemisphere.  On both sides of the Atlantic Ocean there are voices whispering in corners about a "war of the womb" ...

Before I go any further, I want to make clear that I find the situation at once both horrific and humorous.  Another intellectual contradiction we'll just have to live with (or not).

How could a "humanitarian crisis" on the border of Texas be funny?  Como Chistiso?

Well, when one takes a look at my "hometown" - which is supposedly a historic town that has existed long before the United States was even a "nation" - where "colonists" battled against British soldiers who wanted them to pay taxes - where there must have been native indigenous peoples before the colonists arrived (next to "FREE"-hold is "Mah-nah-lah-pan" on the other side of Wemrock Road (was Weamcock) ... Lake To-pah-nee-mus) ...

Let's forget the word "Indian" - it is inaccurate.  There were People of the Land.  The word Indian is a term used by the founding invaders/colonizers to group various tribes into a category of non-citizens of the State.

Sorry, I will slip in a little insert from Badiou about set theory and how it can be observed in our day to day social reality:

Quote
It is not for nothing that governments, when an emblem of their void wanders about – generally, an inconsistent or rioting crowd – prohibit “gatherings of more than three people,” which is to say they explicitly declare their non-tolerance of the one of such ‘parts,’ thus proclaiming that the function of the State is to number inclusions such that consistent belongings be preserved.

The void is reduced to the non-representation of the proletariate, thus, unpresentability is reduced to a modality of nonrepresentation; the separate count of parts is reduced to the non-universality of bourgeois interests, to the presentative split between normality and singularity.  Politics can be defined as an assault against the state.  The State is precisely non-political.

The term "Indian" - as it is used in the history of the United States of America - has a parallel across the Atlantic Ocean where Roman conquerors named the northern tribal peoples "Germanic" - in Latin it basically means "barbarian" or savage.  These "Germanic" peoples of the north were not considered "citizens" of the Empire ... they were conquered and assimilated, used as soldiers.  The Dream Act, anyone?

So, these northern tribal peoples resisted assimilation ... practiced "witchcraft" and what not.  They resisted being despiritualized, Christianized, Islamizied ... alphabetized ... what have you.

Now, isn't it ironic or even hypocritical for descendants of people who "infested" the lands of Northern Europe and then "infested" the lands of North America to get on their high horse about the people of Central America infesting what they now call "their" lands?  They stole it first.  They infested it first.  They planted flags and built towns and set off fireworks and marched in parades.

You see, it is much more interesting to perceive these situations in a detached, almost humorous or mocking manner.  This allows the "philosopher" or "thinker" to transcend ego and "ethnicity".

Some may see the demographical shifts occurring in both hemispheres, where the peoples of the southern part of the planet are outbreeding the northern peoples AND migrating north as a WAR OF THE WOMB.  In the "European" part of the planet there is talk of the "Muslims" infesting (different from invading) the "Christian Nations" ...

How many giant pink elephants are there?  You'll see them here.  We love to welcome discussions about giant pink elephants in tiny rooms.

In the Western hemisphere, where the USA is considered a "White Christian Republic" founded by descendants of "European civilization" who were themselves descendants of tribal peoples who were conquered by the "Roman" soldiers (slaves of empire), there is talk of the peoples of Central America "infesting" the USA, and, again ... like across the Big Pond ... having far more babies than the antinatalistic disciples of Arthur Schopenhauer.

It is a great deal of intellectual fun to consider such phenomena plainly, for you can then bear witness to the living nightmares of Adolf Hitler.  AHA - H is trying to tie this all together in a neat little essay!

Hitler and others like him were trying to stop the inevitable.  Disciples of Arthur Schopenhauer will not survive in a **** contest with what Emil Cioran called "the dregs of humanity" --- [I am not intellectually elitist BUT ---]   :P

To Hitler, the situation is HORRIFIC.

To H, the situation is COMICAL.  I am still not sure if "survival" is even desirable.  Life is not a soccer - er, I mean Futball - game.

Horrific satire ... the only genre for reality-based thinking.  This could be why I am such a good "sport" - why I hold no grudges about "being **** off the planet" - you see, because my worldview transcends Hitler's worldview.  Hitler is to Nietzsche what I am to Schopenhauer.  I am able to laugh and joke around with the very people who are, in an impersonal manner, **** me off the planet.  Like the bonobo chimpanzee jerking off in the corner, I just don't give a ****.  I find it all rather comical and absurd.

Thanks again for your response & time .I am just stunned by the intellectual breath of the “essay”.You say everything is strange,I could not agree more. Please forgive me for not being able to respond at length, though I’d very much like to,being a wage slave, for now,I am able to send only these hastily written notes. Two things, you are saying that the Romans, the Greeks & the Jews are responsible for decimating the European tribal culture. These three civilisations too at some point in history would have been just a cluster of tribes, they over time, became what they became.

For argument’s sake, lets imagine that the European tribes & the Red Indian tribes managed to stay isolated, even then, don’t you think eventually they would also have evolved like the Roman or the Greek civilization, even in absence of external influence?

Second, you say"I am still not sure if "survival" is even desirable.” Are you 100% certain yet that survival/life is undesirable?

Thanks for introducing me to Artaud- I am finding him very fascinating indeed.

Was it not Ben Franklin, the Hemp dude, who pointed out that those "citizens" who got a taste of *** red *** "Indian" life would never return to living in towns?  The great lie is that civilization is good for us or that technological advancement is some kind of inevitable progression.  We have access to Bic lighters but lack the confidence that would come from developing the skill of making fire.  We have our people, the people, living in cities that are food deserts, where the people are losing their minds ... trapped ... Civilization is not civilized and the law is a lie.

The people living today (and 500 years ago) in Europe and the Americas would be far better off living with the tribal peoples of America seven hundred years ago.  I will go so far as to say that a human being would have been better off being born 20,000 years ago than born today.

To unmask them, to knock them off the pedestal they have hoisted themselves on, to hold them up to scorn is a campaign no one should remain indifferent to. For at any price we must keep those who have too clear a conscience from living and dying in peace.

And yet, has there EVER been a good time to be born human?

Second, you say"I am still not sure if "survival" is even desirable.” Are you 100% certain yet that survival/life is undesirable?

No.  I am not 100% sure about anything.  In certain circumstances, I might succumb to replicating this old DNA ... fortunately I am pretty much left alone and am almost 50, so I think I am nearly out of the woods ...

I criticize civilization while I love - and I mean LOVE - to study and learn about the nature of the beast.  I can be a total geek when it comes to writing even the simplest of code ... I tweak the colors and actions of the Xfce terminal using the PS1 variable and PROMPT_COMMAND in the .bashrc file.  This doesn't mean I lose perspective.

I am still fairly certain that life is not worth living, and that civilization might not be all it's **** up to be.

I want to quote something written by Bob Corbett about The Mind Parasites.  I notice a parallel where I might be evading personal responsibility (by blaming the Roman-Greco-Semitic mesh) the same way Wilson lets our species off the hook with this idea of alien beings, the mind parasites who exist below the threshold of consciousness (like memes?).

Quote
The strange and inexplicable suicide of Karel Weissman and the discovery of a gigantic city some two miles beneath earth combine to provide narrator Gilbert Austin with the beginnings of a weird tale of inner beings and some ultimate threats to human existence and advancement. Among many odd details of Weissman’s suicide is a note indicating that Austin should receive his papers immediately. Austin is justly curious as to what is there, but it ends up taking him many months to discover Weissman’s secrets. In the meantime Austin teams with Wolfgang Reich and these two archeologists add to Weissman’s work in psychology to unearth the world of the mind parasites.

Colin Wilson’s challenging and entertaining novel is both a sci-fi romp into the improbable, but a philosophical tour de force of the existentialist problem of authenticity. I was fascinated and disappointed by turns, but couldn’t stop turning pages, often amused by what was going on and at times frustrated, almost angry at Wilson for letting us humans off so easily. There is a bit of a surprise ending, so I will leave these comments somewhat incomplete and not fully rounded to Wilson’s tale. I don’t want to ruin someone else’s read.

Weissman’s journals and the world of Gilbert and Reich discover the existence of these mind parasites; beings living deep in each individual psyche and limiting the human exercise of the mind. It some way that never becomes fully clear the mind parasites sponge off human energy and were the humans to exercise full clear control over their own minds they would know the mind parasites were there and would defeat them, driving them out, which Gilbert and Reich eventually set out to do. However, as it exists now (the setting of the novel is the year 2012 and the book was written in 1967), the human is only able to use a tiny tiny fraction of the power of the mind, being inhibited by these parasites.

For those familiar with the movement of existential philosophy this is the problem which Martin Heidegger first made famous with his 1927 work BEING AND TIME and in 1942 Jean-Paul Sartre approached it from a slightly different perspective in BEING AND NOTHINGNESS. Wilson is quite aware of these works and has even written a work on “New Existentialism” a movement of which he is a self-named member. In the work of the existentialists there are no hidden beings. Rather, humans, on Heidegger’s account because of basic laziness and lack of intellectual skill, do not take hold of their own lives, examining the meaning of existence and making their own choices. Rather, the strong tendency is for humans to act out of habit, tradition, learned behaviors of our families and cultures, from religion and various other modes, all of which evade the personal human responsibility for our own choices. The existentialists generally unveil this hidden mode of what they label as “inauthentic” living and urge humans forward to take control of their own lives in an “authentic” personal responsibility. Not all thinkers are convinced that all humans can or will actually do this. Fyodor Dostoevsky the mid-19th century novelist and early existentialist has argued powerfully that the great mass of humans will never take such responsibility and the world is divided into the tiny minority of people who will take responsibility for themselves and others and in so doing will disburden the rest of the masses who much prefer to turn over this personal responsibility for security and evading the terror and hard work involved with it.

Given that Wilson and I share a common background of deep commitment to and interest in the existentialists, and both of us clearly share the notion of authenticity as a human virtue to be aimed at, I was in great measure saddened, even disgusted by his device of using the mind parasites to account for this phenomenon of humans not taking full personal responsibility for their own minds. In the contemporary literature there are a number of theories which most of us are aware of which explain this human lapse from taking full conscious responsibility for ourselves:

- The existentialist analysis I mention above.

- The Freudian view that the human unconscious is responsible for much of our action.

- The common view especially of our own time that we are fixed by our past and our very early learning and are virtual slaves to our upbringing, and if not fully incapable of acting freely and responsibly on our own, then we are at least deeply limited by our past.

What frustrated me in Wilson’s analysis with the mind parasites is that the entire notion of the mind parasites brings in outside beings who are the responsible agents and not us humans. This seems a complete caving into the notion that humans are either not capable of human freedom and responsibility, or at least drastically limited.

But, one can certainly view the fight of Austin and Reich to lead humans to defeat the mind parasites and reclaim their minds as an exercise in authenticity.

Once we get to the TOOLS to be used to fight the mind parasites I simply burst out laughing aloud. When the existentialist movement came into the intellectual world in the earliest days of the 20th century Heidegger, Sartre and other were deeply influenced by the work of Edmund Husserl, the developer of the method of inquiry called Phenomenology. So are Austin and Reich and they decide that the only “scientific” tools capable of combating the mind parasites are the principles and practices of Husserlian Phenomenology. This had me alternating between giggles and out right belly laughs as I recalled back my graduate school days of the 1960s when I struggled under the guidance of Professor Herbert Spiegelberg to grasp the extremely difficult and esoteric moves of Husserlian Phenomenology. Here we have a novelist instructing us readers in Phenomenology so we can follow the path of Austin and Reich as they begin to enlist other scientists in the up coming Phenomenological war against the mind parasites.

At least Wilson had the common sense to know he could not really instruct us readers in the details of Phenomenological analysis so we get the window dressing without the details. But after living some 36 years as a professor wedded to Phenomenology as a philosophical method, knowing it was far from being a popular or dominant school of thought in the modern American intellectual world and seeing how difficult it was over the years for me to teach even the most basic rudiments of the method to undergraduates, I felt vindicated to see Colin Wilson saving the whole of human kind with Husserl’s theories!!!

However, at this point the novel does spin off into some rather wild sci-fi fiction. Austin and Reich and another few dozen of their disciples use their Phenomenology (a form of it I never saw in Husserl!) to learn psycho-kinesis and other tools of the occult and the mind parasites are soon on the ropes.

What will not ruin anyone’s read is to realize that the humans sort of do defeat the mind parasites in the end, but even that is a bit confused. Wilson seems torn between defeating these foreign beings and in sticking to the Dostoyevskian notion that most humans are hopeless and will never embrace freedom and responsibility for their own lives with all the hard work which that implies.

I have never been a strong fan of sci-fi type novels. There are often exciting logics of alternative worlds that don’t operate by the rules of our world, and that is fun and challenging. Yet, as occurs in Wilson’s novel, there are often inconsistencies which are glossed over in the telling, but, if one has a nagging and rather compulsive sense of logic and consistency which I seem to have, then such inconsistencies are bothersome. Such inconsistency is central to this work since Wilson never fully makes up his mind if the mind parasites are actually independent beings which are tied to humans in a symbiotic necessity, or if they really don’t exist at all, but are a trick of our own minds. At times the logic of the story flows in one direction and at other times in the other, and these are flatly contradictory. Given that actual physical events of this psycho-kinetic war take place against the mind parasites in some parts of the novel, he is strongly committed to their actual independent existence. Thus, when later in the novel the author seems to switch gears to deny all this, the logic of the work is in deep question.

I’ve limited my remarks to the centrality of the battle with the mind parasites and the critical role of Husserlian Phenomenology in this battle. That is quite fair to the novel. Yet two other themes come out here and there throughout the novel, and though they aren’t developed in detail and thus leave little for me to say about them, there is enough mentioned of them to intrigue. These are Carl Jung’s notion of a collective unconsciousness which is itself something beyond the sum of individual consciousnesses of each of us, and the evolutionary work of the French Jesuit Teilhard de Chardin who also saw evolution moving beyond the individual human as the central “entity” of humanity and pointed toward a notion of cultural consciousness as an independent existence. I wish Wilson had developed those themes. They are fascinating speculations.

Colin Wilson is a learned man and fills this novel with references to various philosophers, psychologists and natural scientists in such a way that one can’t help but be impressed with the breadth of his knowledge. The Mind Parasites is a very fun book to read and philosophically challenging to boot. I recommend the book to all serious readers.

you are saying that the Romans, the Greeks & the Jews are responsible for decimating the European tribal culture. These three civilisations too at some point in history would have been just a cluster of tribes, they over time, became what they became.

I didn't want to fill this message board with references to what others have already written since I really think we have the ability to formulate our own thoughts on these matters.  One I used to refer to as "The Aborigine" has once written me, telling me, "Please stop quoting me, Mike.  You have more than enough ability to express yourself in your own words!"

Maybe there are time constraints or other unknown variables that pressure us.  Anyway, not for nothing, here's some Rammstein and excerpts I typed all by myself from Daniel Quinn's two cents.

amerika

Before you know it, I'll be quoting Marshal Mathers ...

Quote from: Daniel Quinn

Lock and Key

It's easy to pick out the people who belong to "our" culture. If you go somewhere - anywhere in the world - where the food is under lock and key, you'll know you're among people of our culture.

When it comes to the most fundamental thing of all, getting the food they need to stay alive, the food in these places is all owned by someone, and if you want some, you have to buy it.

No other culture in history has ever put food under lock and key - and putting it there is the cornerstone of our economy, for if the food wasn't under lock and key, who would work?

Our cultural excuse for failure is that humans are just "naturally" flawed - greedy, selfish, short-sighted, violent, and so on, which means anything you do will fail. In order to validate that excuse, people want tribalism to be a failure. For this reason, to people who want to uphold our cultural mythology, any suggestion tribalism was successful is perceived as a threat.

The Maya, the Olmec, and the people of Teotihuacan became rigidly stratified into wealthy, all-powerful, elites and impoverished, powerless masses, who naturally did all the grunt work that made these civilizations magnificant.

The masses will put up with this miserable life - we know that! - but they inevitibly begin to get restless. We know that too.

When the underclass becomes restless

Our history is full of underclass inserrections, revolts, rebellions, riots, and revolutions, but not a single one has ever ended with people just walking away. This is because our citizens "know" that civilization must continue and not be abandoned under any circumstance.

So they will go berserk, will destroy everything in sight, will slaughter all of the elite they can get their hands on, will burn, ****, and pillage - but they will never just walk away.

This is why the behavior of the Maya, the Olmec, and the rest is so unfathomably mysterious to our historians. For them, it seems self-evident that civilization must continue at any cost and never be abandoned under any circumstance. How, then, could the Olmec, the Maya, and the others not have known it?

This [meme] is exactly what was missing from the minds of these peoples. When they no longer liked what they were building, they were able to walk away from it.

No special control is needed to make people into pyramid builders - if they see themselves as having no choice but to build pyramids. They'll build whatever they're told to build, whether it's pyramids, parking garages, or computer programs.

Something BETTER than civilization is waiting for us.

Religion is a barbiturate, dulling the pain and putting you to sleep. Revolution is an amphetamine, revving you up and making you feel powerful.

And in what is supposedly the happiest, most prosperous nation in human history, more and more antigovernment terrorist groups attract more and more members every year.

As everyone knows (especially revolutionaries), hierarchy maintains formidable defenses against attack from the lower orders. It has none, however, against abandonment. Hierarchy cannot defend itself against abandonment because abandonment is not an attack - it's just a discontinuance of support.

It's almost impossible to prevent people from doing nothing (which is what discontinuing support amounts to).

But won't the powers that be try to prevent people from doing nothing? I can imagine them trying but not succeeding.

The unspoken agreement among businesses to limit their obligation to issuing a paycheck is precisely what gives our society its prison ambience. Workers have "no way out". Whether they move from company to company or from nation to nation, their employers' obligation ends with a paycheck (an agreement that suits employers very well).

Prisons are always arranged to suit the wardens. No one thinks that prisons are built to suit the needs of prisoners or that businesses are built to suit the needs of workers.

Stepping into a tribe means stepping out of the prison.

In hierarchal societies, it's always a good idea to make poverty sound like a blessing.

At the present time, the United States represents the high point of maximus affluence that our civilization has reached. There's no place on earth where people have more, use more, or waste more than the United States. Though other nations haven't as yet reached this high point, they yearn to reach it. They have no other goal.

Everyone in the world should have a house, a car, a computer, a television set, a telephone, and so on. This is "the culture of maximum harm".

Once the Taker mythology has been exposed for what it is - a collection of poisonous delusions - it will no longer be capable of exercising the power it has exercised over us for the past 10,000 years.

But won't the last pharaohs in their maddened wrath turn their nuclear arsenal at us?

Perhaps they would if they could, but where are they going to find us except living right beside them in their own cities?

Is the president, seeing his/her power slip away, going to bomb Washington D.C. to destroy the tribal people living there? Is the governor of New York going to bomb Manhattan?

Civilization isn't a geographical territory, it's a social and economic territory where pharaohs reign and pyramids are built by the masses.

Similarly, "beyond civilization" isn't a geographical territory, it's a social and economic territory where people in open tribes pursue goals that may or may not be recognizably "civilized".

You don't have to "go somewhere" to get beyond civilization. You have to make your living a different way.

RELUCTANT VOLUNTEERS

By conservative estimates, at any one time there are about half a million people in the United States who have been thrust beyond civilization into a social and economic limbo that nowadays is identified as homelessness.

Homelessness is slightly more than a euphemism for poverty, since it draws attention to the special form poverty takes in hypermodern cities, which might be defined as cities in which space is so valuable that none of it can be spared for the poor. With the complete disappearance of low-cost housing, there's just no room "indoors" for the poor in such cities.

Several distinct streams come together in the homeless flood. One consists of the mentally ill, turned out into the streets when deinstitutionalization became the rage in the 1970's. Another consists of semi- or unskilled workers whose jobs have been exported to countries where labor is cheaper or made superflous by downsizing or automation. Another consists of abandoned women and children, victims of racial or ethnic prejudice, undereducated, unskilled, and chronically unemployed. Others in the homeless flood are runaways, drug addicts, bums, winos, transients, and vagabonds, who, because they apparently "choose" to be homeless, are the "undeserving poor".

Making the homeless disapear

Public officials (reflecting the unspoken desires of their constituents) naturally want the homeless to disapear: to get jobs, to find homes, to resume a "normal" life. The role of officialdom is therefore to assist, prompt, and encourage the homeless to get about the business of resuming that normal life.

Above all, nothing must be done that would encourage the homeless to remain homeless. In short, homelessness must be made as unremittingly difficult, degrading, and painful as possible, and you may be sure that our public guardians know well how to accomplish this.

Naturally, the public wants homeless shelters, but these are hardly to be hospitable; no one should want to "stay" in one. If the homeless began to "stay" in shelters, this would defeat the purpose, which is to entice them out of homelessness.

Avoiding officially sanctioned shelters at all costs, the homeless take refuge almost anywhere else - in alleys, parks, tunnels, and abandoned buildings, under bridges, and so on. The police have to roust them from these areas regularly, because if the homeless become comfortable anywhere, what motive have they for stop being homeless?

Making and keeping the homeless as miserable as possible is cherished as sort of tough love - the very best and kindest thing we can do for them.

The only trouble is that it doesn't work worth a damn.

Every year we pass more laws, hire more police, build more prisons, and sentence more offenders for longer periods - all without moving one inch closer to "ending" crime.

Every year we spend more money on our schools hoping to fix whatever's wrong with them, and every year the schools remain stubbornly unfixed. Every year we try to make the homeless go away, and every year the homeless remain with us. We couldn't shoehorn them back into "the mainstream" last year or the year before that, but you can be sure we'll try again this year, knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that it won't work this year either.

The members of the tribe are not employees of the tribe, they are the tribe. Indeed, that’s the whole difference. Because the tribe is its members, the tribe is what its members want it to be – nothing more and nothing less.

A tribe is a group of people making a living together, and there’s no one right way for this to be done. Be inventive.

The tribe is just a wonderfully efficient social organization that renders making a living easy for all – unlike civilization, which renders it easy for a privileged few and hard for the rest.

The civilized hate and fear tribal people

The civilized want people to be dependent on the prevalent hierarchy, not on each other. There’s something inherently evil about people making themselves self-sufficient in small groups. This is why the homeless must be rousted wherever they collect.

This is why the Branch Davidian community at Waco had to be destroyed; they’d never been charged with any crime, much less convicted – but they had to be doing something very, very nasty in there.

The civilized want people to make their living individually, and they want them to live separately, behind locked doors – one family to a house, each house fully stacked with refrigerators, television sets, washing machines, and so on. That’s the way decent folks live. Decent folks don’t live in tribes, they live in communities.

A SYSTEMIC CHANGE

A New Tribal Revolution is an escape route from the prison of our culture. The walls of that prison are economic. That is, the need to make a living keeps us inside, because there’s no way to make a living on the other side. We can’t employ the Mayan Solution – we can’t disappear into a life of ethnic tribalism. But we can disappear into a life of occupational tribalism.

Will this leave our civilization a smokey ruin? Certainly not. It will diminish it. As more and more people see that GOING OVER THE WALL means getting something better (not “giving up” something), more and more people will abandon the culture of maximum harm – and the more this culture is abandoned, the better. The escape route leads beyond civilization, beyond the thing that, according to our cultural mythology, is humanity’s very last invention.

The escape route leads to humanity’s next invention.

But even so, will this next invention give us a sustainable lifestyle? Humans living in tribes was as ecologically stable as lions living in prides or baboons living in troops.

The tribal life wasn’t something humans sat down and figured out. It was the gift of natural selection, a proven success – not perfection, but hard to improve on. Hierarchalism, on the other hand, has proven to be not merely imperfect but ultimately catastrophic for the earth and for us. When the plane is going down and someone offers you a parachute, you don’t demand to see the warranty.

Listen to the children

Listen to the stories they tell with their gestures of profound alienation and despair, the stories of pandemic suicide, of drug use among younger and younger children every year, of mind boggling acts of violence committed by round-faced teens against their families and friends. Listen to their words as well, of course, but never forget that they’ve been schooled to say what people want to hear; the mass murderers are almost always remembered as nice, polite youngsters.

Listen to the monsters

It’s estimated that, since the days of [Quinn’s] youth, depression among children has increased by 1000% and teen suicide by 300%. Since 1997, classroom assassins have killed 2 in Mississippi, 3 in Kentucky, 5 in Arkansas, and 13 in Colorado.

Make a graph of these numbers and watch them go exponential in the years to come – unless we start giving our kids a new way to go and some real hope for the future.

People who are reluctant to spend their lives building some pharaoh’s pyramid all have a common need, but the need is felt most acutely by the young, who are the real pack-animals of the operation.

Sixty years ago raw graduates took jobs in factories, where they could at least expect to climb the same ladder of advancement as their parents. In the postindustrial age young people are becoming increasingly ghettoized in retail and service sectors, where they endlessly lift and carry, stock shelves, push brooms, bag groceries, and flip burgers, gaining no skills and seeing no path of advancement ahead of them.

For them and for us, it isn’t geographical space we want. It’s cultural space. Carlos, who made his home under a grate in Riverside Park, knew that a certain kind of freedom comes with living in a hole. But he also knew it isn’t “real freedom” if you have to live in a hole to get it.

He wanted the kind of freedom people have when they live where they please and don’t have to resort to a hole, even in “the scenic Ozarks” or “the foothills of Kentucky”. He wanted a whole world’s worth of freedom – and so do most of us, I think. To get that, we’ll have to take the world back from the pharaohs.

This won’t be hard.

They’re not expecting it – but even if they were, they’d be helpless to stop it.

Why things didn’t end up a-changin’

Lots of songs about revolution came out during the hippie era of the 1960’s and 1970’s, but the revolution itself never materialized, because it didn’t occur to the revolutionaries that they had to come up with a revolutionary way to make a living. Their signature contribution was starting communes.

When the money ran out and parents got fed up, the kids looked around and saw nothing to do but line up for jobs at the quarries. Before long, they were dragging stones up to the same pyramids their parents and grandparents and great grandparents had been working on for centuries.

Daniel Quinn teaches that no single person is going to save the world. Rather (if it is saved at all), it will be saved by millions (and ultimately billions) of us LIVING A NEW WAY.

One thousand living a new way won’t cause the dominant world order to topple. But that 1,000 will inspire 100,000, who will inspire 1,000,000, who will inspire 1,000,000,000 – and then that world order will begin to look shaky!

The Second Half of the First Minute

Well, it was either this thread or the Resistance thread, but, when push comes to shove - listen to about 0:35 seconds to 0:56 seconds ... John Trudell, a Native, says that "white" people have had to endure this for thousands of years, what the Natives have had to endure hundreds of years.  Listen to the entire speech, but if nothing else, listen to the second half of the first minute!

Thanks for introducing me to Artaud- I am finding him very fascinating indeed.

In 1947, one year after having spent nine years in psychiatric hospitals, Antonin Artaud published a book as an apologia of Vincent Van Gogh, “suicided by society” ... You might especially be interested in reading that.

Recall that Scandanavia and even the Old Germania must be considered separate from whatever is being referred to as "Europe."

Food for thought:

Consider this.   If Nietzsche's claim to fame was reading the philosophies of philosophers as "psychological literature" saying more about the philosopher's Lebenswelt (life-world) than about any supposed or theoretical "objective world," then, rather than imagining Adolf Hitler reading Friedrich Nietzsche, let us imagine a Nietzsche reading a Hitler.
