The Sound of Insects (For Holden)
« on: September 18, 2019, 07:15:03 pm »

From an online review:

"The Sound of Insects: Record of a Mummy is a wonderful documentary based on novella "Until I am a Mummy" by Shimada Masahiko which is also apparently based on true story. Mummified body of 40-year old man is found by a hunter somewhere in the wintry forest. A diary is found near his corpse, detailing the man's everyday thoughts as he slowly commits suicide through long (lasting 60+ days) and self-imposed starvation. Life is disillusionment. This is what potentially prompts anonymous nameless male to starve himself to death in his tented grave."

"And the strict master Death bids them dance."

Mr.Silenus,

First off ,I made a poor choice of words when I wrote that Meursault just trying to have a good time. I agree with you that he was killing time.I admired him a great deal as I tend to relate to him.In the last act ,he spurns the consolation being offered by a priest is something I really appreciate.

A week back I saw a man on the street,he must have been close to sixty-five. His entire face was covered with hundreds of warts.Warts..yearning to live.. to survive, to draw nourishment from his body. His face was that of a monster. If one looks at it one’s appetite is sure to die a sudden death. He was just going about his business. And the warts were going about theirs and I stared and I stared (with all my appetite and will to life..dead as a doornail).

Another thing,Mr.Silenus, I have realised that anti-natalism and philosophical pessimism can be understood only by a very tiny minority. Most of the people are going to follow the traditional religious. People like Herr Kaspar,Senor Raul, you ,Mr.Ibra, belong to a very tiny minority and that is how it is always going to be.

And it not about the lack of exposure to reality. Heck, who has not suffered on this planet but most people will rationalize their suffering. That’s just the way things are. Will always be. There is maybe one Schopenhauer in a century or two.I count myself as very fortunate that I got the opportunity to interact with all of you,for over here, most of the people I run into are gorts through and through.

If we were to talk about philosophical pessimism with ,say,a Mormon or a Jehovah’s Witness, well, it will not go well, not at all.
