Mitchell Heisman's Note Ignored?
« on: June 24, 2014, 10:33:31 pm »
Talk about futility ... Is anyone even bothering to read this man's suicide note?

[updated : .geenstijl.nl/archives/images/suicide_note.pdf]

I may be posing this question to myself.  Have I read it?  Well, I've read a hundred pages or so and skimmed through parts ...

Alright, before I can criticize the general population for ignoring those who do the deepest thinking and actually attempt to articulate their thoughts to us, I have to read this myself.  If any one cares to join me in pecking away at this reading project ...

I know, I know, our motto here will be "Why bother?" --- you can't beat that.

Some might think, "Who has time to read a 2000 page suicide note?  I'm writing my own!"   ;D

or ... "By the time I finish reading that note I will die of old age."

Should the truth be openly pursued, no matter what, even if it kills us?

To actively answer this question would constitute an experiment in nihilism.

I guess all I am looking to do in this thread (and I invite anyone else to join me if they ever find themselves skimming through the suicide note) is to copy a paragraph or two, then delete all but a few lines ... totally out of context.  This way, by the end of the thread, even if it is many pages, we might have a highly concentrated summation of this individuals thought processes.

Our society is quick to discredit someone simply for taking their own life.  Others may have a slight fear that, if they follow Heisman's reasoning, they may go insane.

Quote
From purely rationalistic view, nihilism is self-contradictory; the nihilistic self-destructs. This is another way of looking at the postmodern self-destruction of reason. If rationalism leads to nihilism, and nihilism leads to disbelief in reason, then rationalism leads to the self-destruction of reason. If the philosopher maintains a life according to reason or as an embodiment of reason, then does reason lead the philosopher to self-destruct?

I hear a symphony ...

Experiments in Nihilism
:  Reading silently Mitchell Heisman's suicidenote.pdf with the voice (inside your head) of "the demon inside Reagen" - AKA Captain Howdy (Pazuzu).

 ;D

Quote
The implications of life’s meaninglessness have not been elicited with sufficient ruthlessness. My methodology is honesty to the point of absurdity; honesty without mercy;  honesty unprejudiced by morals, aesthetics, faith, or hope.

When all illusions have been dispelled, at the end of overcoming subjectivities, biases, and prejudices towards life, one encounters the possibility of rational negation of self-interest; rational self-annihilation; rational self-destruction.

The experiment in nihilism is to seek out precisely those truths that are most deadly and destructive to me. To will death through truth and truth through death.

Stop making sense!

Here's an excerpt-

Whatever the psychological quirks I might
possess, my central problem is nihilism. Can the
meaninglessness of existence be cured with therapy? Lie
therapy, whether religious or secular, is overwhelmingly the
normative state of the human race. Put another way, there
may be sound psychological reasons why radical nihilism is
not a condition prescribed by therapists. Yet if psychologists
are scientists, and their own methodology confirms the
scientific view of human beings as material things in motion,
on what grounds can they criticize nihilism in itself?

Were they thinking that Jesus was a freak
cursed by his demonic, evil, Roman, rapist blood? Were they
thinking that he was trying to cure others of the demons that
he himself possessed?

Jesus ,the son of God,the son of a rapist.Life is gross.

I am not depressed, the world is depressing.

Beautiful.  We can try to interpret Heisman to the walking dead ... Heisman For Drunks.

Just a slight shift in the grammar makes all the difference.  The world is depressing.  The Jung family didn't want the public to see his private diaries in which he said basically just that:  one would have to be a sociopath not to be depressed by this world.

Sister Mary Cupcake says, "Think positive.  It gets better."

No Sister, the worst is yet to come.  Remember that.  Wake up Sister.

Even though it makes so much sense, believe it or not, Heisman is the first person I have heard this theory from, that the Nazarene's mother was raped by a Roman Soldier.  It makes sense to me.

Life is gross.  I think I will be using that line now.  Life is disgusting.  We are all tubes filled with excrement, not "spiritual beings having a physical experience."

It is an antidote to the statements one hears, like "Life is a miracle".

The utopian technological dreaming that would have us bioengineer our way into a new more perfected nature (or would have us download human consciousness into better hardware), like the new age wish to spiritually transcend the physical plane entirely, seems calculated to help us hide from the wildness (grossness) of earthly existence.

I am wondering what the section "God is technology" is about ...

I so much prefer reading from books as opposed to off a computer monitor, which is why this is slow going.  When and if I finally get into another apartment, I think I will set the monitor up high enough so that I can read it standing up ... read a paragraph and pace around thinking about it or read comments about it into a recorder.  I don't really know what it is about this document, but I can sense that it is unique.

What is "the Devil" anyway but some symbol for all that about ourselves we refuse to acknowledge about ourselves?  Man created the Devil in his own image.

**** is an act of war, a war against dignity and self-respect.

Daddy was a soldier.  Daddy raped mama.  Therefor daddy is YHWH.  WTF?

There is definitely something fishy in Bethlehem.

All emotions, whether joy or misery, elation
or depression, are rooted in behavior that proved to be
genetically adaptive for animal ancestors. So no matter what
the emotion or cognition, there is an objective view of
subjective experience. At the center of my thinking is the
possibility of overcoming this double standard and fully
integrating unadulterated materialism into the center of
subjective consciousness.

I think its very difficult to achieve what he was trying to do.

Ignored, yes.Surely we would not expect it to feature in the New York Times Bestseller List. They would rather please the lady friend, buy gifts for her, try to get that next promotion, plan to have a "baby".THEY DISGUST ME.No,disgust will not do.I must study them,as a philosopher.
Its easy to ridicule them. But "I" could have been a gort too.I would very much like to be a philosopher like Schopenhauer and you.

Can we rephrase Schopenhauer's philosophy,I wonder & yours too? If not,I will be content to be just a reader, the Reader.I think I reading you and Schopenhauer  eases my pain,I think it does, that's why read the two of you so much. Its my pain-killer, I think. You are a wonderful pharmacist,Mr.H,the best!

What about the quote on the very first page of Mitchell Heisman's 2000+ page Suicide Note ?

"Ordinary  people  seem  not  to  realize  that  those who  really  apply  themselves  in  the  right  way  to philosophy  are  directly  and  of  their  own  accord  preparing  themselves  for  dying and death.  If  this is   true,   and   they   have   actually   been   looking forward to death all their lives, it would of course be  absurd  to  be  troubled  when  the  thing  comes for  which  they  have  so long  been  preparing  and looking forward."    ~ Socrates

I would like to strengthen my "bad attitude" toward life, the kind of attitude that Holden displays in that last comment from March 2016 concerning Heisman being ignored:

Quote from: Holden

I have to confess, I have only read parts of it.   With so much already written, I fear I will end up dying one of those mad scribblers Schopenhauer was talking about when he said, "forever reading, never to be read."

I am more of a note taker than an original thinker.  If I accomplish anything original, I hope it will be that I will be one who attempts to articulate how very little he truly understands so that those who come after me will not feel too bad about their own lack of understanding.  May I be remembered as one who openly displayed his confusion without any sense of shame.

Peace.  May we philosophize ourselves into the grave with as little pain as possible.

Also, I want everyone, especially Holden, not to feel any kind of pressure to post frequently.  In other words, there is no need to apologize if a post goes a long time without a response.

I suggest we allow ourselves to take it very slow.

"I am not depressed; the world is depressing." ~ Holden of India sums up Heisman's 2000 page Suicide Note

To Our Holden,

I would like to encourage you to fine tune this Cioranesque art of summing things up into a phrase one could whisper into the ear of a drunkard or a dying man.

Like magic spells, such sayings of yours may help reduce the suffering of those who digest such truths.  May you flip the script on the industries which have profited off pathologizing what turns out to be a natural response to being.
