A short aphorism for you Holden:

The futility of filling our stomachs being labor enough, why bother establishing theories of the mind or participating in back-breaking work?  If not for the artifice of civilization, or any of our other collective hallucinations, we would feel more comfortable in praising and aiding the bum, scamp and tramp.  Men and women devoted to no cause: life is not dilated by the scope of ideas or machine-mechanics, but rather the size of the stomach.  Having reduced themselves to feeding, drinking and breathing only, they reveal the rest of us as being imposters, poseurs, circus men.  A man without an ascetic body? - ringmaster of the great Lie.  Only the hungry ones will be blasphemous, and therefore honest.

This image was going through my mind while gathering edibles at a grocery store teeming with human life in various stages of development.   I was especially sensitive to the reality that each "soul;" that is, each "human creature," was experiencing a not very dissimilar "world" as I am - although each had a different body and temperament.  These fellow-sufferers I have coldly referred to as "the gorts of Gortistan" or "the breeders of misery" were all no less REAL than my "self," each just as ensnared by the chains of biological necessity.

The thing is, while so many are able to keep their heads together, some of our "brothers and sisters of misery" do reach their boiling points and run amok.  Others, as Raul says of himself sometimes, become so very tired that they just collapse.   And the teeming masses, of which I am one, may lack the energy to attend to them as we are caring for ourselves (or an aging parent or, the horror, dependent children).   Just another day in the Human Zoo/Plantation/Prison, designed not so much by some sinister human overlords, but simply the playing out of yet another strand of organic life.

In our little cells is an amazing world of computers, mathematics, philosophy, literature, music and film; and outside one's cell/room (if you're lucky enough to have a room/cell), along the highways, the grocery stores, the farms and slaughterhouses, and the cities which depend on the farms and slaughterhouses, there is the raw brute fact of a Hellish scene "playing itself out."

When we get some sleep and are rested, we may feel blessed; but when we are in the thick of it, it's a scene I lack the verbal or artistic skills to describe.  It really is no wonder, when I wake up, I want to hide in the room/cell and continue "going through the texts," scribbling the mathematical symbols in the notebooks, and configuring the operating systems on the computers, using the computer algebra systems, etc.

The reason why "How to Get Through a Life Not Worth Living" has lasted as long as it has as the THEME/TITLE of whybother DOT freeboards DOT org is because we each had reached the point where there was certainly no "thrill" in being alive.  We witnessed the redundancy and pointlessness of lives, and faced the problem of enduring this, wanting to minimize the agony and the anxiety/horror.

Thanks for posting the image as a link rather than as an uploaded attachment.

For a long time now I have gotten warning from freeboards about how we have run out of space, but that space is only used by attachments (when we don't have a link to another location on the web but upload from our own machines).   I am guilty of attaching a photo of a woman's shapely rump; and I usually just attach some text files of code.   I am too frugal to pay a fee for a domain.

Silenus,

Thank you for posting this appropriate image.  Indeed, Silenus, we are in a human prison farm. Months ago I read that scientists were going to detach the head of a Russian man from his crippled, diseased body, and stitching it onto a healthy new donated body. Also there are fertility experiments that will allow designer babies to be conceived with the DNA from three or more biological parents. What a wonderful world!

Wherever you are, stay well.

Mr.Silenus,

Thank you for the aphorism.

Here is something  I would like to share with you and  Senor  Raul and Herr Kaspar:

By Bacon

HE that hath wife and children hath given hostages to fortune; for they are impediments to great enterprises, either of virtue or mischief. Certainly the best works, and of greatest merit for wisdom, have proceeded from the unmarried or childless men; which both in affection and means have married and endowed wisdom. Those that have children  have greatest care of future times; unto which they know they must transmit their dearest pledges. Some there are who lead a single life, their torments do end with their  demise, and account future times impertinences.  Nay, there are some other that account wife and children but as bills of charges. Nay more, there are some men, that take a pride in having no children. For perhaps they have heard some talk, Such an one is a great man, and another except to it, Yea, but he hath a great charge of children; it is an abatement to his greatness. But the most ordinary cause of a single life is liberty, especially in certain penetrative minds, which are so sensible of every restraint, as they will go near to think their girdles and garters to be bonds and shackles. Unmarried men are best friends, best masters, best servants; but not always best subjects; for they are light to run away; and almost all fugitives are of that condition. A single life doth well with philosophers; for wisdom will hardly water the ground where it must first fill a pool.  For soldiers, I find the generals commonly in their hortatives put men in mind of their wives and children; and I think the despising of marriage amongst the Turks maketh
the soldier more bold. Certainly wife and children are a kind of slavery of humanity; and single men,  they may be many times more charitable  and bold, because their means are less exhaust, , they are more clear minded (good to make severe philosophers), because their shallow emotions is not so oft called upon.

Keep well.

Hentrich,

From time to time I listen to Gloomy Sunday, the Hungarian song by Reszo Seres. As you say there is no thrill in being alive.

Who said “all men (and women should be added) are created equal”? Yes, equal to suffer and die.

Holden posted a link about the famine in Yemen, murders and suicides in India. One month ago here in downtown Asuncion an entire family was massacred. A young girl, her son and daughter, and her parents. All of them buried inside the house. Before that  Paraguayan judges condemned a Catholic priest for **** only to pay, more or less, USD. 1,000 and not spend time in jail. A small example of the beauty of life.

Yes, this entire Earth where millions of human beings torture and kill each other.  I see couples with their newborn babies. Cute babies. Sad to say but most of them will be monsters in the making. Just like me. But let us not worry because things are going to get much, much, much worse.

We. human beings, are just feeding troughs in this barn called Earth.

Stay safe and sound.

I seem to have accepted that the NATURE OF MY BEING makes me UNEMPLOYABLE:

Talking out loud, THINKING OUT LOUD, singing, muttering --- lack of restraint ...

Without government assistance I might seriously go off the deep end.  How many are there are in the same situation?  We are Legion.  Many with offspring get locked up on a regular basis, routinely, even for not paying "CHILD SUPPORT."

With Emile Cioran I can at least proclaim to never having committed the crime of fathering a child.
