Title: Notes on a Pandemic
Post by: Nation of One on March 19, 2020, 05:50:25 pm
Me, personally?   I'm no hero or martyr.  I wonder when there will be an insurrection among those employed by grocery stores and hospitals.   Is an insurrection even conceivable?

Would I be painted as a monster were I to suggest that maybe nothing is worth the trouble?

Is it possible to be intrigued by twitching and writhing cockroaches, even when the cockroaches are ourselves?

Am I depraved for seeing the nature of our reality all too clearly?

Mart Cardin, editor of Born to Fear: The Ligotti Interviews, posts on The Nightmare Network, noting a recent blog post by James Howard Kunstler:   Things Have Changed (https://kunstler.com/clusterfuck-nation/things-have-changed/).

All bets are now off in the US, as government has successfully made itself ridiculous and superfluous; the economy is a giant, inflated, hallucinatory racket that is now being deflated and dismantled by reality; the nation's collective investment in a suburbanized, economically globalized, big box store way of life is now being fully exposed as a fatal journey down a dead-end road; and what lies on the other side of all this is a vastly different way of life that's closer to the bone. As with all things, we'll see.

Thanks to Raul for mentioning this in The Misanthrope Society (http://whybother.freeboards.org/gortbusters/cnn-travel-the-misanthrope-society/msg8551/#msg8551) thread.  While preparing the usual banana bread, I was becoming irritated and annoyed by the loud TV - Maman watching "Good Morning, Amerika!" - with the inane reports on "the bright side" of the pandemic.  Thank goodness for this message board and for my good fortune of having established a connection with Raul de Paraguay and Holden of India.  Thank goodness we pay the bill to the telecommunications company so that such communications remain alive at this time.

We have established this trust where we can lay bare our spontaneous thoughts, and we are most certainly more than 6 feet away from one another.  It might be worth considering for certain "philosophical types" to create their own old-school discussion boards ... cells of 2 to 5 thinkers who might help one another keep their heads together.

It might be worthwhile to exchange addresses in case the grids go down.  Maybe we might have to communicate via international Snail Mail.  Just a thought.

I looked into what Raul had reported, and I found at globalresearch DOT ca (https://www.globalresearch.ca/30000-u-s-soldiers-sent-into-europe-without-masks/5706084) the following:

The 30,000 U.S. soldiers, who “will spread through the European region,” are in fact exempted from the preventive COVID-19 regulations that apply to civilians. The assurance given by the U.S. Army in Europe that “we are monitoring the Coronavirus [COVID-19]” and that “our forces are in good health” is enough.

At the same time, the environmental impact of a military exercise of this magnitude is ignored. U.S. Abrams tanks will participate, weighing 70 tons, with depleted uranium shells. Each tank consumes 400 liters of fuel per 100 km, producing heavy pollution to deliver maximum power.

In this situation, what are EU and national authorities doing, what is the World Health Organization doing? They put the mask on over their eyes, as well as over their mouth and nose.

From dw DOT com (https://www.dw.com/en/us-military-in-germany-what-you-need-to-know/a-49998340):

Countries in Europe are being locked down and our civil liberties are being railroaded in the name of social cohesion and public safety, yet the armed forces of a foreign nation can come and play soldiers in our backyard and they don’t need to follow the rules that are being thrust upon us… They aren’t even taking any precautions against the terrible pandemic sweeping the globe as I write.

Hmmm. I smell a rat.

This pandemic is obviously a cover story for some kind of powerplay by the 1%. Or as Christian from “Ice Age Farmer (http://www.iceagefarmer.com/author/iceagefarmer/)” has postulated, it’s the excuse for the massive food shortages and the economic meltdown that is just around the corner.

I know, I know.

Silly me.

“Shut up and pay your taxes.”

Interesting famine foods: cat meat.  I hope there are sweet potatoes and yams!     I've been thinking about Daniel Quinn's ISHMEAL, where he points out that global civilization, both East and West, has always been in crisis, one crisis after another, as a matter of fact.   When the coffee beans are no longer accessible, this here 21st Century Schizoid Man is going to be one miserable wretch.  I will miss bananas a great deal.

I was curious about the spread of this mother humper in Africa:

As coronavirus spreads across the globe, countries in Africa are taking preventive measures to keep the disease out and many are showing a strong level of preparedness to counter its spread.

There are now more than 100 cases recorded in 11 countries in Africa, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organization. Egypt remains the nation with the most reported cases with 59, more than half of all confirmed cases on the continent.

Most of the cases in Egypt are among passengers and crew members aboard a Nile cruise ship coming from southern city of Aswan to Luxor, Egypt state-run Ahram Online reported.

Egypt's health ministry announced Sunday that a German citizen was the first death from the virus in the country, according to Ahram Online.

At least they acknowledge Egypt as Africa, unlike the charlatan G Whiz Hegel, who saw it as an appendage to "Europe" or whatever the hell they like to call the territories remaining after the spread of the Roman Empire and the transmutation into the Roman Catholic Church.

It's all like science fiction.   We'll see what they feed us.

Life is a cruel joke.  I wish I were able to laugh with gods the demons at my own gowrling tubes inside the gut.   I wish I could detach my consciousness from this animal body.  Today is a good day to die.

It is difficult to study mathematics with all the hype and all the voodoo bullshit.

I wonder if any of the eggheads are able to concentrate.   Of course, a head cold makes such things difficult.   Maybe I might catch a second wind.  That would be a great way to ignore the machine and distract myself from the general misery of existence.

Soon one of us may be talking to himself alone, and then { } the void ...

Global economic collapse, the likely collapse of the medical industry, the creep of martial law (at least here in New York State)...quite a lot has changed! But Daniel Quinn was right and the so-called stability and security of civilization proves to be a farce when it runs against it's limits. And global civilization continues to push against those limits. It will snap like a twig...years and years of so-called assurance will go up in smoke, leaving the prisoners (who are also the guards of their prison) wondering which idol to run to next.

I hope you all are well, solitary & without idols. :)

Thanks Holden.  The sad thing about the lock-down is that my personal day to day life has not changed all that drastically.  I have simply had to force myself to crack open the math texts, sharpen my pencils, and repeat the Ligotti mantra:

Tasso the poet about whom Goethe wrote a book went raving mad.Sometimes I see people wearing rags and talking to invisible beings. What are they talking about.
There might be peace in madness.

Today I got a very strong feeling that I would eventually die in a prison. Then I remembered that the Earth itself is a prison.

I think about Schopenhauer often. Its afternoon in Frankfurt ,he is alone in the house and an overwhelming emotion rises in his breast and he can barely breathe.

Then maybe he thinks of his readers , centuries down the line,he thinks of us and he begins to feel better.

Whatever it is, when it comes down to day to day living, we are helpless vulnerable creatures, and those who control the masses know this.

I hope that you do not die in a prison.  I notice the attitudes of the "law enforcement officials" just from a few video fragments, and I concur that it most likely would not take much to bring down their wrath.

The earth is a prison and we're locked inside.   There has to be a way out of this.  No one gets out of here alive.   The leaders here speak of the doctors and nurses "on the front lines," and they refer to them as "heroes."   And yet these health care professionals are just following orders.  If they are told to put you to sleep for good, they will do as they are told.

The doctors and nurses and grocery store workers, as well as all who are commanded to stay home, whatever home may be, are all cattle.  It is like Raul said in the other thread.  We know not what the ZooKeepers have in store for us.  I will pose this question in the "To Senor Raul" thread.

I will be posting some links to videos to explore theories of the paranoid.

Federal agencies and experts warn that a historic wave of mental-health problems is approaching: depression, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide.

“What’s shocking to me is how little leaders are talking about this. There are no White House briefings about it. There is no plan.”

The suicides of two New York health-care workers highlight the risks, especially to those combating the pandemic. Lorna Breen, a top New York emergency room doctor, had spent weeks contending with coronavirus patients flooding her hospital and sometimes dying before they could be removed from ambulances. She had no history of mental illness, her relatives have said in interviews, but struggled increasingly with the emotional weight of the outbreak before she died. Days later, reports emerged that a Bronx emergency medical technician also killed himself.

Researchers have created models — based on data collected after natural disasters, terrorist attacks and economic downturns — that show a likely increase in suicides, overdose deaths and substance use disorders.

Hell, even I tied one on a few times this summer.  I imagine the nurses must be hitting the bottle after their shift is over.   I don't know how people do it.  Maybe they don't know any way out.  Kant was concerned with this idea of duty.   Does anyone have a duty to keep it together?   Even if one did cultivate this sense of duty and chants positive thinking mantras, that will not alleviate psychological distress or emotional suffering. Everyone is an animal, and all animals have limits to what they can or will endure.

Speaking for myself, while I have always been prone to mood swings, and most days the heavy burden of my own existence weighs me down, lately I have sensed a higher level of anxiety and fear about the future, fear of the unknown, fear of BEING-IN-THE-WORLD.

For me, though, it is not so much the pandemic, but life in general.  This is what makes life so ridiculous, that we can be tired of living and wish it to come to an end so we might rest in peace, but most of us do not take our own lives.  And there are few people who are honest about how they really feel about existence in general.  They think that they can "create their own reality" by thinking certain thoughts.

When I see things as they really are, that I enjoy using mechanical keyboards built in a slave factory somewhere in the Far East, I can't help but feel complicit.  I would not want to work in a factory assembling your keyboards or computers or smart-phones.

So many conflicting emotions.  If I am not willing to work in such a factory, I have to prepare myself to live in a world where no one wants to work in such a factory.
