It's Worse Than You Think
« on: May 20, 2018, 12:50:25 pm »
I discovered a like-minded thinker who has unleased a handful of manifestos:

Pessimism Manifesto

A Manifesto for Minimalism

A Tentative Case Against God

A Theory of Permissible Suicide

About the author:

Quote from: Alan Reynolds, a Pessimist
If you are [a Pessimist], I would love to hear about it.  Or if you have any comments or suggestions about the Manifesto, let me know.

Email me: alan.preston.reynolds@gmail.com.

This may be another mind you may want to contact if I should be involved in some kind of random vehicular misadventure.

Certainly I agree with these points but what doesn't suit well for me personally is...well, why should we need to have meaning?  Why us, what makes us so significant, so worthy of having meaning?  Is it so that we don't go batShit insane because our consciousness has no groundwork for it to operate calmly, in conformity, conveniently?  Maybe that insanity was the only thing our consciousness could provide: without mutual illusions and fairy tales we would truly be what we were supposed to be...a chaotic, unreserved animal?  After all, the dreams we make and conform to are really just as insane as what we would be anyways without them, in my opinion.

There are 4 different links, each one containing a manifesto, so I have no idea which "points" you are agreeing with or what you mean to say.   Which manifesto are you referring to?

For instance, in the Minimalism Manifesto alone, there are several branches, as in:

Epistemic Minimalism: Embrace an honest agnosticism toward all issues on which you’re not an expert. You are not an expert in 99% of the domains of human inquiry, so withhold judgment on them and admit ignorance.  Here’s a helpful guideline: Unless you have read multiple professional peer-reviewed journal articles reflecting various viewpoints on the topic at hand, plead agnosticism.  Finally, take pride in your agnosticism.  Laugh to yourself at the false certainty of others.  Everywhere around us, people speak with complete certainty on topics that they clearly don’t understand.  What such people show is simply how little they know of the limits of their knowledge.  In contrast to them, you should see the Socratic knowledge of your own ignorance as the most precious kind of knowledge there is.

Sorry, I jumped the gun too quickly.  I was referring to the Pessimism Manifesto and it's descriptions in general of loss of meaning, identity and societal roles.
