Contradictory Misanthropists
« on: May 01, 2016, 10:50:28 am »
The major contradiction that access to the Internet presents to those of us who consider ourselves misanthropic is that we are able to "interact" with like-minded individuals who share some of our quirks.  Consider those interested in the square root of negative one.   Such people exist on a day to day basis as loners who shun the company of those who are not interested in such things.

And yet, if we are fortunate enough not to be locked away in some jail cell for causing a public disturbance (think of Nietzsche getting placed in a mental hospital for crying in public over a horse being whipped by a gort), then we find that there are like-minded individuals out there grappling with similar concerns.

So we have a bit of a contradiction.   People write books.  People write textbooks to try to explain things ... I think Schopenhauer pointed out these different worlds.  The world of books is not the same world as day to day society.   When he had his work published, he might have felt that everyone around him should have read and contemplated the contents, but, alas, they did not!

He was writing to us, and his body has long since rotted in the earth, but he communicated with us.  There are those who spend their lives working on projects such as SageMath or the community that continues to work on sympy.  I imagine these people are not discussing their work with members in their monkey-sphere.

We'll just have to accept these contradictions.  Our dialogue here is not for Facebook or Twitter or "social networking", and yet it is a form of society, even if it consists of two or three like-minded loners.

On the other handed, one moves with caution or risk becoming overwhelmed with the enormity of information in one's reach.  For instance, if one starts to look into C++ libraries for linear algebra, it's like opening up a can or worms.  One is reminded of Einstein's statement,  “Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater.”

“Since the mathematicians have invaded the theory of relativity, I do not understand it myself anymore.”

Steady as she goes ... Maybe it's best to interact with other human beings from a great distance!

They write endless commentaries on Bible.I want to write commentaries on WWR.
Will:It is a blind irrational striving, beyond good and evil; raw energy, without any direction. We are all expressions of this amoral, aimless cosmic drive. Human beings do not make up a privileged, higher order than other natural beings, but are embodied creatures that are determined by their will, i.e., their affects, desires, urges and emotions . Contrary to Kant, Schopenhauer does not believe that rationality gives human beings more dignity or moral worth. The subject of cognition is thus ultimately nothing but a manifestation of a blind striving, which is neither individuated nor situated in time–space.
“we no longer consider the where, the when, the why, and the whither of things, but simply and solely the what”
When do I feel that? Only when I’m alone.Far from the maddening crowd.
“A repugnance towards the will to life itself” .Yes,nothing I want  nothing.I don’t even want to be ANYTHING. This can only occur if we are completely nauseated by the amount of suffering in the world, eventually deny the will to life and abolish the willing self altogether .

When in Venice, Schopenhauer was very keen on meeting the notoriously charming poet, Lord Byron, and has managed to obtain a letter of introduction, written by Goethe, who has just finished his Italian Journey. On one occasion, during a walk on the Lido beach, his jealousy prevents him from actually making Byron’s acquaintance, for Schopenhauer’s female companion screams a bit too enthusiastically when she sees Byron riding his horse on the beach, and Schopenhauer’s desire to meet him suddenly diminished…

A question for Mr.H:what happens if a man who dies without having any children & rationally fully persuaded that LIFE is not desirable at all but he failed to conquer lustful thoughts because of his biology? What happens to him? Will you say that he has denied the WILL?Or will you say that his Essence will continue to exist so that as he cannot conquer his libido completely?

How can one conquer one's lustful thoughts?   Fortunately, the body itself eventually becomes impotent, which is a kind of blessing.  Then one can entertain all the lustful thoughts he wants about the crazy sexy nymphets ... It won't do any harm.

Life ultimately humiliates us all, no?

We do not own our heads.

I listened to that song ... so, who's gonna watch you die ... uncanny ... one of our neighbors is on his deathbed today.  He stopped eating and is turning into a skeleton before our eyes.  Cancer?

It's a damp cold day out there ... watching someone die, we can't help but witness our own mortality.

Ligotti says we do not own our heads.  Really, what do we own?  What is this "I" anyway?

What is it that has to overcome what?

What an awkward predicament one is placed in just being born.  And where does this "I" come from?  Isn't it just a narrative constructed by various microscopic cells?

Today is a good day to die.   Every day is a good day to die.

Are you asking me if somewhere in the future long after "I" am dead, somewhere there will be an "I" still forging ahead?

Eventually though, even the sun and all the stars expire ... but not simultaneously.

I'm going to smoke a cigarette and then try to understand some math.  The nymphets are not interested in math anyway.  Out of sight is out of mind.

Now you've got me thinking of my libido.  May it rest in peace!

Señor Hentrich,
I hope you are doing allright there. Here as everywhere most people celebrate Labor Day. What a funny day to celebrate our slavery. Yes, we, humans, are a contradiction and we will always be. By the way, have you ever heard the Norwegian hip hop band Mistro? Take care in New Jersey. Raúl

I had not heard of Mistro, no.  I always envisioned this kind of marriage between hip-hop and classical music.

Yes, Holden, he has grandchildren and the suffering continues on through the generations until the great flood.

Holy shiit, raul.  Mistro is disturbing.   I'm getting a little depressed, but I think it is appropriate. I see why my sister is a vegetarian ... and my nephew.  Life is killing.

I try to push for a comic perspective, one that embraces hostility and irritability and grumpiness, but issues like this, seeing as I do consume meat from animals slaughtered in factories of death, makes me understand why Holden pushes for the horrific perspective.  Maybe I am using mathematics to block out the horror.

I don't blame the kids for wanting to burn down this plantation.  :(
