Test for Echo:

"The damage that this false hope does to the human brain is incalcuable ... It's the cause of all the mess, really.  If we had to seriously look at life and take it for what it is, you know, which is a bunch of cunsumption at the expense of non-volunteers to be victims, it's just sadistic and cruel to say, 'yes, make some more of that.  make some more victims so I can watch them get eaten alive and such.'"

Millions of rats get caught in glue traps so you can watch football.  It's a great deal since football, as we know, is just so important.

"There's just nothing good to say about anything going on, and there's nobody to talk to because everybody's an idiot."

This is why you don't have to worry about displeasing your family, your so-called aunts and uncles and cousins ... "the clan".

Myself, I have no regrets about not seeing any extended family.  What would be the topic of conversation, anyway?  Photos of their trips?  Another baby born?    Someone is going to be a pharmacist?  a doctor?   an accountant?   Why doesn't anyone want to talk about how absurd existence is and how foolish it is to bring more children into the world?

"wishy washy mush"  --- yep, I am tired of wishy-washy mush.  I have been for a long time.

I understand why Gary makes sense to you, Holden.  He talks about things that not many people want to hear.   Most people prefer wishy washy mush, false hope, celebrity gossip, the Hype Engine...

"chasing the medals ... the badges"

Very depressing stuff.  And yet, Gary is just the messenger of a message which is inherently very depressing.

Buzz kill.   No, suckers, it's not "all good."  It's never been "all good".

"Life beat the shiit out of John Wayne and Charlton Heston."

Reality.

"There's an alternative theory to what your silly parents are telling you, kiddies. You know, the story where there is some kind of purpose and you're some kind of expression of their love and all that other lies and bullshiit.  There's this alternative explanantion, which is that you're just part of a system that just grinds stuff up based on replicating DNA molecules and a silly competition for some notion of temporary ownership."

"It's just a silly war that never ends and everybody ends up with a knife in their nuts."

(Sorry, but that made me chuckle.)

"It's just a meat grinder with lipstick on it.  people thinks it gives good blo-w-jobs.  It's not what's going to happen.  It's not what IS HAPPENING."

"How is bringing children into the world anyhting other than an act of gross cruelty or gross selfishness?"

"Forcing something to love you."

"It's just not that complicated once you take the silly religion crap out, you're just left with this horrid mechanical system of evolution that doesn't have a single merit.  It just creates brutal monsters. "

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This monster is going to lie on the floor and work on some high school geometry problems, all the while silently chanting the mantra, "Why bother?"

No wonder I became so philosophical and "deep" as a teenager.

I want to be able to endure the depression which accompanies these studies ... endure the boredom and the meaninglessness of solving one problem after the other.

It is an alternative to TV, an alternative to watching videos on ZooTube.

It allows me to block out the Hype Engine.

One thing I could not rap my mind around is Gary's mission statement about saving the rodents from glue traps.  i could not help but imagine his reaction were a horde of large hungry rats to come crawling out of the walls of his domicile as he was recording another ZooTube video.

While ramblings such as Gary's might be unpleasant and disturbing to witness, at least he attempts to articulate what he is wrapping his mind around.  Everything else seems so inane.

William Reich's "orgone accumulator"   ::)  ???

I don't blame you for drifting around the vlogs and videos.  There are a few gems out there:  "The preacher, he encourages your capacity for illusion, then he tells you it's a fuucking virtue.  there's always a buck to be had doing that. "
