For 35 years, Carl Lore II believed the man after whom he was named was his biological father. The elder Lore died when Carl was 7 years old. The man he thought was his father was only 36 years old.

“I was really sold the idea that my father was really sick and as a result of that, I would also be probably very sick,” Lore remembers.

For Christmas 2018, Lore, who was 35 at the time, was given an ancestry test. He took the test and got the results back February of 2019. Those results started what Lore described as a “snowball” and a “really emotional and terrible” time.

“I found out that the person who was my father, the person I’m named after (was not my father),” Lore said Tuesday.
