You suspect right,Herr Hauser.In the other thread I left the link for a movie based on a book by Hardy who was greatly inspired by Schopenhauer.

In the book ,Jude is a working man and he wants to be a scholar.He studies on his own.In the end,he dies alone,while his wife leaves to attend a party ,though she knows full well that he is dead.Jude the Obscure.
