Holden,

Thank you for your words, the article and quotes.

Yes, life is full of turmoil and angst. And we are living in a cruel world.

The Gnostics and their spiritual heirs, the Cathars, knew that this world is evil. From a Cathar treatise:

(Apostle) John says: "Love neither the world, nor the things that are in the world, for all that is in this world is the lust of the flesh". And Christ: "The Prince of this world will come". And He continues: "My kingdom is not of this world."

And in another fragment: "I do not pray for this world". Another passage: "Father, the world has not known you". And of his own he says: "They are not of the world, just as I myself am not of the world.

If the world is placed under the rule of the Evil One, if it is not to be loved, nor to love what is in it, one must believe that it is not the dominion of Christ, because it does not come from the Father.

And if it does not come from the Father, it is not of Christ. The latter said to the Father: "All that is yours is yours, and what is yours is mine. Therefore, the kingdom of Christ is not of this world, Christ does not pray for this world, and his own, who belong to him, are not of the world.

If, besides all this, the world hates them, if they know misfortunes, if it persecutes and fights them and Christ, then it is not to be believed that the world is Christ's, because the world has ignored him and does not know him.”

Stay safe.
